Windermere Christmas Lights
By Louise Jones, 27 November 2010 –
What a lovely way to start the festive season, this evening we walked from Rosemount Guest House up the road to watch the Windermere and Bowness Christmas light procession.
Hundreds of people gathered in Windermere town waiting for Father Christmas to appear, bundled up against the sub zero temperatures the Christmas tree outside the Lighthouse Restaurant was a spectacular backdrop and the Christmas spirit was definitely in the air!
Children were kept amused with festive balloons and mini light sabres and adults sipped on mulled wine until just after 5'o clock, a fire engine led the start of the procession from Windermere train station down through the town.
Santa was towed by real baby reindeer and a fabulous group of drummers gave the drumming signal to switch on each set of lights. Just wonderful!
The procession wound it's way through the town followed by families, friends and babies in pushchairs their rosey glow reflecting in the Christmas lights. As it wound to an end down by Lake Windermere a spectacular firework display marked the start of Christmas in Windermere, a real treat and definitely one for Rosemount calender next year!
